4 Things to Do on the Fourth of July

We at Wetravel can’t believe that it’s already almost July! It seems like it was only yesterday that we celebrated New Year’s Eve or commemorated the summer solstice. There are a lot of things to look forward to in July; International Day of Friendship, Harry Potter’s birthday, National Ice Cream Day. The list goes on and on. But one thing that we at WeTravel are looking forward to is the Fourth of July. And how can you not? With its overload of all things red, white, and blue and the influx of fireworks that light up the night sky, the Fourth of July, or Independence Day, encourages people to show their patriotism and love for the U.S. of A. To commemorate this important moment in our nation’s history and culture, we at WeTravel have come up with a list of four things to do on July Fourth.

Go to a beach, lake, or nearby body of water.

There’s just something about going to a beach, lake, or nearby body of water on the Fourth of July. You relax, swim, lay out in the sun, play games, and just get to enjoy life. What more could you ask for during the summer and on July Fourth? It’s like the epitome of summer. While we understand that not everyone lives along the coast, we still think that visiting any nearby body of water could be a great way to unwind this weekend, so go on a group trip with your family and friends and travel to your nearest beach, lake, or pool to cool off from the July heat!

Have a barbecue or picnic.

This is just a given. Food is a highlight for many, if not all, holidays. What better way to celebrate the Fourth of July than to eat and drink immense amounts of food from hot dogs and hamburgers to lemonade and watermelon? You get to make some pretty delicious dishes and enjoy them too! Best of all, if you’re celebrating Independence Day with a huge group of people, planning a picnic or barbecue can also act as a potluck with people bringing different dishes to share and enjoy together. You won’t have to worry so much about prepping the food for the party and you’ll get to spend some quality time with the people in your life.

Spend some quality time with family and friends.

And that brings us to our next point. Any holiday is a great reason to gather up your loved ones and spend some time with them. Reconnect with aunts and uncles that you haven’t talked to in a while or meet up with your friends to chat about the latest happenings in your lives. Take advantage of this weekend and plan some trips or meals together. Whatever you choose to do, just try and spend some quality time with the important people in your life. Use this as an opportunity to get to know them a little bit better and to deepen your relationships with them. Trust us, you won’t regret it.

Attend a Fourth of July celebration and watch some fireworks.

Many towns and cities often have celebrations that commemorate this important moment in American history. You’ll get to spend quality time with the people in your life, probably learn a little bit more about the history behind this momentous occasion, and get the chance to display your patriotism and love for this country. Join in on these festivities if you want to be wowed by the spectacle of bright and colorful lights that is a fireworks show. Or brush up on your lyrical knowledge of the national anthem by belting out the Star Spangled Banner.

There are so many different ways that you can celebrate the Fourth of July and these are just some of them. The Fourth of July is a celebration of independence, freedom, and the birth of this great nation. And yet, it’s also an opportunity to learn more about this country’s past, present, and future. Take this weekend to not only celebrate Independence Day (both our national holiday and the classic film), but to also learn more about the history of the United States, the current issues that we face, and what’s in store for us.
