Q: Tell us about yourself and where you are from and how long have you been a part of the WeTravel team?

A: I am Tural, a Senior Frontend Engineer at WeTravel. Originally from Azerbaijan, I began my journey with WeTravel as an intern Software Engineer in 2015, contributing for a duration of 2 months. Following the completion of my university studies in 2016, I re-joined WeTravel as a Frontend Engineer. Additionally, I pursued and successfully attained my Master's degree at Lincoln University, San Francisco. Currently based in Amsterdam, I am further enriching my professional experience with the diverse perspectives of this vibrant city. My association with the WeTravel team spans over several impactful years, reflecting my commitment to contributing to the company's success.

Q: How have you seen WeTravel grow as a company over that time?

A: Certainly, WeTravel has undergone significant growth during my tenure. When I initially joined, we comprised only three engineers. Presently, our team has expanded to encompass more than 160 individuals. The journey has not been without its challenges, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic, which posed a substantial breakpoint for our company as a player in the travel industry. However, I am proud to note that the company navigated through these challenges adeptly, emerging stronger than ever. The team's dedication and strategic management have played a crucial role in our resilience and success.

Q: Are there any specific achievements or milestones in your career here at WeTravel that stand out to you?

A: From an engineering standpoint, a standout achievement in my career at WeTravel has been leading the transformation of our monolithic frontend application into a Micro Frontend architecture. While the project is still ongoing and has not reached completion, we have successfully migrated a significant portion of the domain. Undertaking this initiative was no small feat, and as a team, we gained valuable insights and experiences throughout the process.

Q: Are there specific lessons or pieces of advice you find yourself often sharing with new team members?

A: In our team, we value a supportive and learning-focused atmosphere. As a team, we work together and newcomers quickly adapt to our company culture. One key lesson I often share is that success is a team effort—no one achieves it alone. I encourage new team members to recognize and appreciate the contributions of those who help us reach our goals together.

Q: What team-building activities have you recently participated in outside of work?

A: I recently enjoyed a delightful picnic at Erasmuspark in Amsterdam during the summer—an event that added a lot of fun to our team dynamics. Additionally, our regular Friday Borrels contribute significantly to fostering a positive atmosphere in the office, making it a great way for the team to unwind and connect outside of work tasks.
