A Golden State of Mind

From the cultural to the physical, the benefits of travel are immeasurable. After all, we at Wetravel talk about them constantly. While we tend to focus on the emotional and cultural aspects of travel, we at Wetravel believe that travel can also be beneficial for your mental well-being.

Sure, planning trips can be stressful, but once you’re actually on one? Well, that’s when the magic happens. When you’re planning your trip and all its little details, it can be pretty time-consuming. You may feel like you have to lock down a million things in a small amount of time. On top of this, you have to handle all the things in your everyday life from that deadline at work to finally completing those errands that you’ve been putting off for weeks. We know how crazy life can get and we realize that preparing for trips probably doesn’t do much to help  reduce your stress levels.

That being said, we do think that once you’re actually on your trip, it’s completely worth it. Traveling can help you clear your mind and reinvigorate you. It’s a chance for you to slow down, take in the beauty of the world, and really understand your place in it, which is probably something that you don’t really do in your day-to-day life. As a traveler, you focus on your path and what’s currently in front of you, rather than on tomorrow or the future. Why worry about what’s happening two weeks from now when you’re taking in the breathtaking Norwegian fjords or looking out into the crystal clear waters of a Bali beach? When you travel, you take a break and clear your mind of any problems or worries that you might have. You get to focus on the here and now with the people around you, whether they’re your family, friends, or locals. You experience all of these amazing things and you craft these memories that you’ll have forever.

Life is too short to worry about the little things and traveling reminds us of that. We’re so fixated on our everyday tasks and what we haven’t done that we don’t think about the present and all the things that make our lives so special right now. We don’t appreciate the time that we spend with our families and friends or the beauty that surrounds us. We fall into routines. We become overwhelmed with everything. We just get burned out. But when we travel, none of that takes center stage. When we travel, we choose to concentrate on what’s in front of us and relax because why go on a trip in the first place if all you’re going to do is focus on the small and mundane tasks? That’s what you’re trying to take a break from! A trip can allow you to clear your mind and return to a state of mind where you’re happy and reenergized. Traveling provides a momentary hiatus from your hectic schedule. When you become too tired or drained, you’re not at the level that you could be both physically and mentally. But going on a trip can restore your vitality and more. You’re faced with new adventures and experiences and you get to think about what’s really important in your life. When you travel, you get to hit the refresh button and you return to a point where you’re enthusiastic about life and all that it has to offer, a mindset we at Wetravel like to call a golden state of mind.
