Why Yoga Retreats are the Perfect Vacation for a Solo Traveler

Going on vacation solo can be a daunting prospect for some, who worry about feeling lonely and not meeting anyone, whereas others relish the time spent alone and the freedom to do what they like. For a while tour and travel companies have been working to give solo travelers the opportunity to travel with a group of people, but we think that one type of trip, in particular, is the best vacation for solo travelers.

A yoga retreat.

Why? Plenty of reasons!

You can be as social as you like

A yoga retreat is a perfect opportunity to have some “me” time. You can concentrate on yourself for once. There are usually several excursions of optional activities on offer, but it’s up to you how much you join in on social situations with the rest of your retreat attendees. Don’t be afraid to take a step back and find your own space to reflect, knowing you can still have a group conversation at meal times or whenever you want to.

You won’t be the only one

Are you worried about taking a group trip because you think you might be the only one without a friend or not in a couple? Or of solo traveling in general because you don’t want to have to watch people around you laughing and having fun together when you’re alone? There’s no worry of that with a yoga retreat! Chances are you won’t be the only one who’s attending solo. People of all different ages and backgrounds attend yoga retreats, and many of them solo. Yoga retreats are often kept to smaller numbers and can be very diverse.

You can make it your own

Attending a yoga retreat solo gives you the best of both worlds. The main stresses like accommodation and timing are organized in advance and you just sign up. Activities and optional excursions will be on offer and it's up to you if you want to participate. Attending a yoga retreat can be a super active vacation, a relaxing one, or even a combination of both.

As an added bonus you’ll be able to work on your body and mind with guided yoga practice in a most likely beautiful location. You can practice and learn new skills in a safe environment and reap all the benefits of attending a yoga retreat. Basically, a yoga retreat is whatever vacation you want it to be, you can choose how to make the most of your experience.

You can meet new people with similar interests

Joining a group trip to a particular destination doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll be in a group of like-minded travelers. While it’s great to travel with and meet a diverse range of people and we can learn a lot from that, it’s also nice to meet people with similar interests. A yoga retreat has an added wellbeing element that means it’s likely that the other retreat attendees have some similar interests. You never know who you'll meet at a yoga retreat!

You’ll discover more about yourself

Yoga is a personal journey, in which you really need to be able to connect with yourself. Having people you know around can be a distraction or make you feel more self-conscious. Going on a yoga retreat solo can give you a fresh perspective. You’ll be able to really concentrate on what you want to get out of the experience and hopefully, discover more about yourself when you attend a yoga retreat independently.

Travelling solo is a great way to increase your confidence, and if you’re nervous about solo travel then attending a yoga retreat is one way to travel on your own within the safety of a group trip. You get the best of both worlds!

You can relax with plans in place

The majority of the vacation planning is completed for you. You can choose a retreat based on what kind of style you’d like, whether it’s luxury or something more rustic, a mountain or beach setting, winter or summer.

When you travel solo it can be a bit stressful having to plan absolutely everything yourself. On a yoga retreat, the timing is laid out for you, your accommodation is organized, and meals and activities are usually pre-planned as well. You still have an element of spontaneity in that you can choose what activities you want to do, but for the most part, you can relax knowing that things are taken care of.

Travelling solo is a great adventure, and it can be a very healthy thing to do in that it expands our horizons and teaches us about ourselves. And if you want to combine solo travel with a wellness vacation then a yoga trip is really the perfect answer!
