Hey team, Johnny Ward here, the face behind OneStep4Ward.com. I made my mine visiting every country in the world, then being the first person in history to complete the Ultimate Explorer’s Grand Slam (every country, north and south pole, and climbing the seven summits!).
My journey to every country in the world was nothing short of a whirlwind adventure, filled with countless memories, hospital visits, various arrest and I hope some invaluable lessons, and to this day a genuine burning passion for REAL travel.
Today, I want to share with you how this incredible experience has inspired me to encourage other travelers to embark on their own adventures through the group trips I run at OneStep4Ward. This post will also shed light on how my personal travel experiences have influenced our approach to organizing successful multi-day trips, a nod to all the aspiring travel organizers out there.
When I first set out on my quest to visit every country, I had no idea the profound impact it would have on my life and career. From teaching English in Chiang Mai, Thailand where it all started, to coming full circle 10 years later married and back exactly here, with the little matter of 197 countries in between. Of course each destination offered its own unique charm and lessons, but some places warrant special love from me. And that’s where I decided to bring my followers too.
I quickly learned that travel is not just about ticking off countries on a map; it’s about immersing yourself in different cultures, meeting diverse people, and pushing the boundaries of your comfort zone.
Traveling to every corner of the globe taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of embracing the unknown. These experiences were transformative, and I knew I wanted to share this newfound perspective with others. Thus, OneStep4Ward was born—a platform to inspire and guide others on their own adventures.
After achieving my goal of visiting every country, I wanted to create something that would allow others to experience the magic of travel in a meaningful and enriching way. To places that I made contacts, in countries where often people are scared to visit. Group trips seemed like the perfect avenue. These trips are not just about seeing new places but about building a community of like-minded travelers who can share their experiences and grow together.
The group trips we organize at OneStep4Ward are meticulously planned to ensure that each participant gets the most out of their journey. From adventure-packed itineraries to cultural immersion, our trips are designed to offer a holistic travel experience. From Yemen, to Syria, Iraq and Mali. My personal travels have heavily influenced the structure and essence of these trips, ensuring that they are not just vacations but transformative journeys.
One of the most significant aspects of my travels was the connections I made along the way. Whether it was sharing a meal with a local family in Iran or trekking through the jungles of Borneo with fellow adventurers, the people I met enriched my journey beyond measure. These interactions taught me the value of community and the importance of shared experiences, which is a cornerstone of our group trips at OneStep4Ward. These contacts are the very contacts I use to run my trips in tricky countries to this day.
When organizing group trips, I emphasize the importance of creating opportunities for meaningful interactions. Our itineraries include visits to local communities, cultural exchanges, and activities that encourage participants to step out of their comfort zones and connect with others. This approach not only enhances the travel experience but also fosters a sense of camaraderie among the group members.
For those looking to organize multi-day travel trips, there are several key elements that can contribute to success. Based on my experiences with OneStep4Ward, here are some reflections and tips:
Your passion for travel should shine through in every aspect of your trips. Authenticity resonates with people, and when participants see your genuine love for travel, it inspires them to embark on their own adventures. Share your personal stories and experiences; it adds a personal touch that makes your trips stand out. Money is secondary for me. I make good money through my blog, so I run these group trips because I love it!
While meticulous planning is crucial, it’s equally important to remain flexible. Travel often comes with unexpected twists, and being able to adapt and find alternative solutions is key to ensuring a smooth experience. Over the years, I’ve learned to embrace spontaneity and turn challenges into opportunities for unique experiences.
Creating a sense of community among your travelers is essential. Encourage group activities, foster open communication, and create opportunities for participants to bond. A cohesive group enhances the overall travel experience and leaves a lasting impact on everyone involved. Relationships form from these groups. People meet other people who will change their lives. We can foster that.
One of the most rewarding aspects of travel is experiencing different cultures. Incorporate activities that allow participants to engage with local traditions, cuisine, and people. These immersive experiences enrich the journey and provide deeper insights into the destinations visited.
Adding a personal touch to your trips can make a world of difference. Whether it’s surprising your group with a special local experience or simply being available to chat and share stories, these gestures show that you care about their experience and are invested in their journey.
Running group trips has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Seeing the joy and transformation in our travelers is truly fulfilling. Each trip is a unique adventure, and the bonds formed among participants often last long after the journey ends. It’s about creating memories, fostering connections, and inspiring others to see the world with fresh eyes.
For aspiring travel organizers, my journey with OneStep4Ward is a testament to the potential success and fulfillment that comes with organizing group trips. It’s a business that not only allows you to share your passion for travel but also to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
Traveling to every country in the world was a dream come true, but the real magic lies in sharing the gift of travel with others. Through my OneStep4Ward group trips, I’ve had the privilege of guiding countless travelers on their own adventures, to some of the most difficult, remote places on earth, helping them discover the beauty of our diverse world. For those considering organizing multi-day trips, remember that authenticity, community, and a genuine love for travel are the foundations of success. Here’s to many more adventures, both personal and shared!
Safe travels, Johnny Ward
